If you would have said “washi tape” a few years back, there’s a good chance that most people wouldn’t know what you’re talking about. But nowadays you won’t find an arts n’ crafts lover who isn’t familiar with this addictive pleasure.

Washi tape is a Japanese adhesive tape, colorful and decorated and adds a happy twist to almost anything. You can use it to make a million things (especially those that girls like), and the best part is – you can easily peel it off, leaving no marks.

I have a huge collection of washi tape at home, this is the kind of stuff I like to buy just because it’s pretty, before I even know how I plan to use it.

The most common of them all is gift wrapping.

Washi tape is the ultimate upgrader of gift wrapping. It’s enough to keep some plain brown paper and a few rolls of washi tape at home, and your gift wrapping is bound to be the prettiest on the gift table.

Another simple and pretty idea I like to use is to upgrade jars and cans with a few strips of washi tape. Just reuse any empty coffee jar or tin can that you use at home on a daily basis, and add a few strips of washi tape that work well together, and there you have a new flower vase or pencil holder! Simple is beautiful.
