Our Greek vacation

Towards the end of what proved to be a busy, hot summer, Aviv and I decided it was defiantly time for a vacation. We dreamt of beautiful blue beaches, some much deserved peace & quiet and a place suitable for our little Lilly that came along for the ride. We finally picked the isle of Crete, which turned out as a truly excellent choice for the entire family.

We followed up on friends’ recommendation and decided to book the Ammos Hotel, a charming little boutique, family run hotel, right next to the city of Chania. It is located just a two hour drive away from Heraklion airport, so all we had to do was rent a car and hit the road.

We reached a magical spot. The small hotel was well designed, without being over-designed, not too grand or too simple, with a staff that gave you the feeling you were almost home. We fell in love with it the moment we arrived – with the people, the yummy Greek cuisine and especially the attention to detail, from the way it looked to the effort put into remembering exactly how we drink our coffee each morning.

It was the end of September and we feared it might be a bit chilly, but in the end even the weather was on our side; warm without being too hot, just perfect. We spent most of our time in the pool or at the beach, with short visits to town, where we found charming restaurants, markets and picturesque alleyways.

We spent one breezy evening in a local fish restaurant in a town nearby, recommended by the hotel staff. We arrived just in time for one of the most beautiful sunsets ever seen and set down right on the water front. We drank a glass of wine, ate delicious fresh fish and felt that this is exactly the vacation we needed.

Returning to our daily routine from the pure magic that was our holiday wasn’t easy but we defiantly intend to go back next year.
